Sometimes, you encounter individuals and sense an inevitable reunion in the future; Chrissie Lam embodies that notion. Upon my arrival in Bali, I was shattered, battered, nursing injuries, engulfed in grief, and yearning for a complete transformation. Having shut down my business of 18 years due to the impact of COVID-19 and the overwhelming financial strain it imposed, I found myself drowning in debt. Nine years earlier, I crossed paths with Chrissie when she rented my AirBNB in Austin, and from that encounter, a friendship blossomed. Her encouragement spurred me to reach out, promising valuable recommendations. There was an undeniable aura about her, radiating love, peace, joy, and happiness. I found myself irresistibly drawn to her infectious energy and warm smile. Simultaneously, I admired her remarkable business achievements, sharp acumen, and unwavering passion.
On day two, Chrissie began to share her contacts generously and recommend healers of various modalities, some of which were entirely new to me. To keep pace with her wealth of knowledge and extensive lists, I meticulously planned my itinerary day by day. The offerings were vast: from bodywork sessions, lymphatic drainage massages, and chiropractic adjustments to reflexology, facials, soundbaths, power yoga,
breathwork, yin yoga, tarrot cards, visits to waterfalls and temples (some with waterfalls), consultations with spiritual healers, aura readers, reiki practitioners, shamanic energy healers, and even enigmatic experiences like the "electric lady" (a phenomenon that still baffles me). Additionally, there were tea ceremonies, CD release parties, art exhibits, light therapy sessions, lemongrass steam baths, city tours, and, of course, the gastronomic delights of restaurant recommendations, dinner parties, and the pinnacle of it all—plant medicine journeys.
Having participated in over 30 retreats both as a yoga teacher and student and having undergone numerous transformational ceremonies, I can confidently say that nothing compares to the profound experience I encountered in Bali with Chrissie, Hartland, and the connections fostered during that time. The prevailing emotion within me now is one of serene tranquility, boundless love, and a profound sense of unity with the cosmos. It's as if I've discovered my true purpose on this planet, and I am committed to revisiting Bali time and again, peeling away layers of existence.
